Privacy Policy
Draw the Border does not require an account, and we try to collect as little as possible. This page explains exactly what is stored and sent.
What we store in your browser
We use your browser's localStorage to keep the game working between visits: your progress and streak for the daily modes, your theme choice (light or dark), and a random device id used only to avoid counting the same player's results twice. These live under keys starting with dtb:v1:. A separate key, dtb:first-touch, remembers how you first arrived at the site (for example, which link or search term), so our own analytics can tell new visits from returning ones. None of this is sent anywhere unless described below, and none of it identifies you personally. If your browser blocks or clears storage (for example, Safari private mode), the game still works — your streak and progress simply are not remembered.
What we send to our server
When you finish a full set of daily rounds, we send a single request to /api/plays containing: the mode you played, the calendar date, your random device id, your round-by-round scores and distances in kilometres, and the scoring-rule version used. Cloudflare, which runs our server, tells us which country the request came from; we store that country but we do not store your IP address. Country Draw scores are never sent to our server — they are shown to you and then discarded.
Analytics
We use Plausible, a privacy-focused analytics tool, self-hosted on our own server. It does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites.
Accounts, ads and third parties
Draw the Border has no accounts, no logins and, at launch, no advertising. We do not sell or share personal data with third parties.
Your choices
You can clear the game's data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for drawtheborder.org. To ask us to delete server-side records tied to your device id, or for any other privacy question, email hello@drawtheborder.org.
